Changing Clara's language

Clara handles calls in effectively any language, and you can run the app itself in one of five. There are three separate things you can control: the language Clara speaks to callers in, the language of your greeting, and the language of the app.

Clara switches language on the call

You don’t need to set anything up for this. English is the default for most businesses, and Clara starts every call there.

If a caller answers in Spanish, French, or another language, Clara recognizes it from their first few words and carries on in that language for the rest of the call. The caller doesn’t press anything or ask whether someone speaks their language.

Everything else works the same way. Clara still finds out who’s calling and why, still asks the questions you’ve set up, and still sends you the notes when the call ends.

Setting your greeting in another language

If most of your callers speak one language, you can have Clara open in that language instead of English.

Write your greeting in the language you want and Clara says it in that language, in the right accent. Callers hear their own language from the first second.

You can still mix the two. Greet people in English and let Clara switch for whoever needs it, or greet them in Spanish and let Clara switch to English for the callers who need that.

Changing the app language

This changes the language of the Clara app on your phone. It’s separate from the language Clara speaks to callers in.

Open the Clara app
Go to the Business tab (bottom right)
Tap App preferences
Tap App language
Choose English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Chinese

The app switches right away.

What changes when you switch the app language

Two things change:

The app itself. Menus, buttons, and settings appear in your new language.
Your call summaries. From that point on, Clara writes new call summaries in your new language, whatever language the caller spoke.

Summaries written before you switched stay in the language they were written in. Your call history, settings, and greeting are untouched.

Frequently asked questions

Does Clara speak Spanish?

Yes. Clara speaks Spanish, French, and effectively any other language. If a caller starts speaking Spanish, Clara switches to Spanish for the rest of the call. You don't need to change any setting for this to work.

Can Clara change language in the middle of a call?

Yes. Clara picks up the language from the caller's first few words and carries on in that language. The caller doesn't have to ask or press anything.

Can I set my greeting in another language?

Yes. Write your greeting in whatever language you want and Clara says it in that language, in the right accent. Go to the Business tab, then your greeting settings, and write it in the language you want callers to hear.

What languages can I use the Clara app in?

English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Chinese. Change it under the Business tab (bottom right), then App preferences, then App language.

Will my call summaries be in my language?

Yes. Once you change the app language, Clara writes every new call summary in that language, whatever language the caller spoke. Summaries from before the change stay as they were.
