Got the Clara app on one phone, but want Clara to answer a number that’s on a different phone? That’s fine. You just set up forwarding on the phone that has the number, not the phone with the app. This works for a separate work phone, a second mobile, or a spare SIM.
Set this up on the other phone, not this one
Forwarding has to be switched on from the phone whose calls you want Clara to answer. If you set it up on the phone running the Clara app instead, you’ll forward the wrong number and Clara won’t get the calls. So pick up the other phone for the steps below.
The app’s Quick setup can’t do this for you. It can only forward the phone it’s installed on, which is the wrong phone here. So you’ll switch forwarding on yourself, using one of the two methods below.
Before you start: get your Clara number
You’ll forward the other phone to your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Business → Phone Setup and tap your number to copy it , so get it first.
- On the phone that has the Clara app, open Clara and go to Business → Phone Setup, then tap your Clara number to copy it
- Note it down or send it to yourself, so you have it on the other phone
- Now pick up the phone whose number you want Clara to answer, and follow the steps below on that phone
Option 1: Set it up in the other phone’s settings
Do this on the phone whose calls you want Clara to answer.
- Open Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Forwarding
- Turn Call Forwarding on
- Tap Forward To and enter your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Business → Phone Setup and tap your number to copy it
On iOS 17 or earlier, it’s in Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open the Phone app, tap the menu (top right), then Settings
- Tap Supplementary services (newer models: Call settings)
- Tap Call forwarding, then Voice calls (it’s the right menu, even if the name looks odd)
- Choose Always forward, enter your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Business → Phone Setup and tap your number to copy it , and tap Enable
Google Pixel and Motorola
- Open the Phone app, tap the menu, then Settings
- Tap Calling accounts and pick your SIM, or tap Calls
- Tap Call forwarding, then Always forward
- Enter your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Business → Phone Setup and tap your number to copy it and tap Turn on
On other Android phones: open the Phone app, find Settings, and look for Call forwarding or Supplementary services.
Option 2: Dial the network’s code on the other phone
This is the most reliable method. Pick your network and copy the code, then dial it from the other phone’s keypad and press call. Your network shows a short confirmation message.

Use the phone-settings steps above instead, they work on every network. Or message us from the Clara app (Business → App Preferences → Contact Us) and we'll find your network's code.
T-Mobile, Metro and Mint
For these networks, type your Clara number with 1 at the front and no spaces, like 15551234567. So with the **21* code you’d dial **21*15551234567#.
These codes forward every call from the other phone to Clara. To forward only when that phone is busy or unanswered, use its phone settings above instead.
Confirm it’s working
- From a third phone, call the other phone’s number
- If Clara answers, you’re all set
You can use the phone that has the Clara app to make this test call. Just don’t call from the phone you set forwarding up on. It won’t work.
Nothing yet? Give it a few minutes. The network needs a little time to switch forwarding on, so it’s not always instant.
If it’s not working
I think I set it up on the wrong phone
This is the most common mix-up. Forwarding has to be switched on from the phone whose calls you want Clara to answer, not the phone running the Clara app. Pick up the other phone and run Option 1 or Option 2 on that device. If you accidentally forwarded your app phone, open its settings and turn its call forwarding off.
Calls still ring the other phone or go to voicemail
Forwarding isn’t on yet. With forwarding active, calls go straight to Clara without ringing the phone or reaching its voicemail. Re-dial the network’s code on that phone and check your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Business → Phone Setup and tap your number to copy it is exact, with no spaces. A new setup can also take a few minutes to update across the network.
Calls go to the network’s voicemail instead of Clara
Some networks send unanswered calls to their own voicemail before Clara can pick up. Call your network and ask them to turn off voicemail on that line, so calls go to Clara instead.
Turn call forwarding off
Forwarding has to be switched off from the same phone you switched it on: the other phone, not the one running the Clara app. Calls ring that phone again as soon as it clears.
Do this on the other phone too
The Disable Call Forwarding button in the Clara app only clears forwarding on the phone the app is installed on, which is the wrong phone here. Pick up the other phone for the steps below.
Option 1: Dial the network’s cancel code
The most reliable method. Dial the code for that phone’s network from its keypad and press call. Your network shows a short confirmation message.

The ##002# code clears every type of forwarding at once, so it’s the safe choice if you’re not sure which code that phone’s network uses.
Option 2: Turn it off in the other phone’s settings
Go back to the same place you switched it on.
- Open Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Forwarding
- Turn Call Forwarding off
On iOS 17 or earlier, it’s in Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding.
- Open the Phone app, tap the menu, then Settings
- Tap Supplementary services or Calling accounts
- Tap Call forwarding, then Always forward
- Turn it off
Confirm it worked
From a third phone, call the other phone’s number. It should ring that phone now, instead of Clara answering. Don’t test from the phone you just cleared forwarding on, that call won’t behave normally.
Nothing yet? Give it a few minutes. The network needs a little time to clear forwarding, so it isn’t always instant.
Turning forwarding off doesn’t change anything inside Clara. Your Clara number keeps working, so anyone who calls it directly still gets Clara. If you’d rather leave forwarding on and just stop Clara answering for a while, pause it instead.
