Call forwarding is how Clara receives calls on your behalf. You set it up once on your phone, and Clara handles the rest.
Forwarding runs on your carrier’s network, not inside the Clara app, so once it’s switched on every incoming call is sent to Clara automatically. A new setup can take a few minutes to take effect.
The easiest way: let Clara set it up
The Clara app can turn on forwarding for you, so you don’t have to look up any codes:
- Open Clara and go to Settings
- Tap Call Handling → Call Forwarding
- Follow the prompt. Your phone’s dialer opens and dials the right code automatically
- Return to Clara and tap Done
If that works, you’re finished. The sections below are for setting it up manually or troubleshooting.
Option 1: Turn it on in your phone settings
Prefer to use your phone’s built-in menus? Here’s where to find call forwarding on the most common devices.
To find your Clara number, open the Clara app and go to Settings → Call Handling → Clara number, then tap to copy it.
iPhone
- Open Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding
- Toggle it on and enter your Clara number
Android
Menu names vary slightly by brand, carrier, and Android version, but the path is almost always Phone app → Settings → Call forwarding.
Samsung Galaxy (including Galaxy A16 and Galaxy S25)
- Open the Phone app
- Tap the three-dot menu (top right), then Settings
- Tap Supplementary services (on newer models this may be Call settings)
- Tap Call forwarding, then Voice calls
- Choose Always forward, or one of the conditional options
- Enter your Clara number and tap Enable
Step-by-step with screens: Forward calling on a Samsung phone
Motorola (Moto G and Moto G Play)
- Open the Phone app
- Tap the three-dot menu, then Settings
- Tap Calling accounts, then Call forwarding (on some models, Call forwarding appears directly in Settings)
- Choose Always forward, or another option
- Enter your Clara number and tap Enable
Step-by-step with screens: Forwarding calls on Motorola
Google Pixel
- Open the Phone app
- Tap the three-dot menu, then Settings
- Tap Calls, then Call forwarding
- Choose Always forward, or another option
- Enter your Clara number and tap Turn on
On other Android phones the steps are similar: open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, go to Settings, and look for Call forwarding or Supplementary services.
Option 2: Dial your carrier’s code
This is the most reliable method. Open your phone’s native dialer (not the Clara app), enter the code for your carrier, and press call. Replace NUMBER with your Clara number, typed with no spaces.
To find your Clara number, open the Clara app and go to Settings → Call Handling → Clara number, then tap to copy it.
After you press call, you’ll hear a short confirmation tone or see a confirmation message on screen. That’s how you know it worked.
United States
| Carrier family | Included carriers | Code to dial |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T | AT&T, Cricket, Consumer Cellular | **21*NUMBER# |
| Verizon | Verizon, Boost, Spectrum, Straight Talk, TracFone, US Cellular, Visible, Xfinity | *72NUMBER |
| T-Mobile | T-Mobile, Metro, Mint | **21*NUMBER# |
T-Mobile family: enter your Clara number in full international format, starting with
+1(for example**21*+15551234567#).
Canada
| Carriers | Code to dial |
|---|---|
| TELUS, Rogers, Bell, Freedom, Fido, Koodo, Virgin Plus, Public Mobile, Chatr | **21*NUMBER# |
United Kingdom
| Carriers | Code to dial |
|---|---|
| EE, O2, Three, BT, giffgaff, iD Mobile, Sky, SMARTY | **21*NUMBER# |
Vodafone UK uses a different setup. Open the Clara app and go to Settings → Call Forwarding to get the exact code for your network.
The **21* and *72 codes forward all of your calls. To forward only unanswered or busy calls, use the in-app setup above or your phone settings above.
Confirm it’s working
Once you’ve set up forwarding:
- Call your own number from a different phone
- If Clara answers, you’re all set
If nothing happens right away, give it a few minutes. Forwarding is activated on your carrier’s side, so it isn’t always instant.
If calls aren’t reaching Clara
A few quick things to check:
- Double-check the code. Re-dial your carrier’s code and make sure your Clara number is correct, with no spaces.
- Network voicemail. Some carriers send unanswered calls to their own voicemail before Clara can pick up. You may need to ask your carrier to disable it.
- Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode. Calls can’t forward if your phone has no signal or is blocking calls.
- Give it time. A new setup can take a few minutes to take effect across your carrier’s network.
To switch forwarding off, see How to stop Clara from picking up your calls.
