Google Voice lets you forward calls to another number — which is how you connect it to Clara. Here’s how to do it.
What you’ll need
- Your Google Voice number (the one you give to customers)
- Your Clara forwarding number — find it in the Clara app under Settings → My Number
Step 1 — Link your Clara number to Google Voice
On desktop (recommended):
- Go to voice.google.com
- Click the settings icon (top right)
- Select Calls from the left menu
- Under Linked Numbers, click New Linked Number
- Enter your Clara forwarding number
- Choose Verify by Phone (not SMS)
- Clara will receive a call with a verification code — enter it to confirm
On mobile:
- Open the Google Voice app
- Tap Menu → Settings
- Under Account, tap Devices and Linked Numbers
- Tap New Linked Number and follow the same steps above
Step 2 — Enable call forwarding
Once Clara’s number is linked:
- Go to Settings → Calls in Google Voice
- Make sure call forwarding is turned on for your linked numbers
- Clara’s number should appear in the list — confirm it’s active
Step 3 — Test it
Call your Google Voice number from another phone. Clara should answer. If it rings through to your personal device instead, check that Clara’s number is the active forwarding destination.
Tips
- Google Voice supports up to 6 linked numbers — you can keep your personal number linked too if you want calls to ring both
- If you want only Clara to answer, remove other linked numbers or adjust the ring order
- Changes take effect immediately — no restart needed
