Clara works with Talkroute. Talkroute is a virtual phone system that can forward calls to any number, which is how you connect it to Clara. You forward your Talkroute calls to your Clara Number, and Clara answers from there.
Option 1: Overflow forwarding (recommended)
Your team still gets calls first. Talkroute rings your team for a few seconds, and if nobody answers, it routes the call to Clara. No missed calls, and nothing changes in how your team works day to day.
In Talkroute:
- Go to your number or extension and click Edit
- Set up sequential ring, with your team’s phones first and your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Settings → Call Handling and tap your number to copy it last
- Set each phone’s ring time to under 10 seconds so calls do not drop off
- Uncheck Enable Call Announcement and Talkroute Voicemail
- Turn on caller ID forwarding so Clara knows who’s calling
Leave call announcement off
If Enable Call Announcement and Talkroute Voicemail stays on, calls go to Talkroute’s voicemail instead of Clara.
Option 2: Scheduled forwarding
Forward all calls to Clara outside business hours. Your team handles daytime calls, and Clara covers evenings, weekends, and holidays. Available on most Talkroute plans.
What you’ll need
- Your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Settings → Call Handling and tap your number to copy it , found in the Clara app under Settings → Call Handling
- Access to your Talkroute account settings
- About 10 minutes
Confirm it’s working
Call your Talkroute number from another phone and let it ring out without anyone answering. After a few seconds it should reach Clara.
Turn it off
Open Talkroute, edit your number, and remove your Clara NumberIn the Clara app, go to Settings → Call Handling and tap your number to copy it from the ring or forwarding settings. More detail in How to stop Clara from picking up your calls.
